First of all, in class today, we had a review over ethics and copyrights.
We talked about video game pictures as well.
Well, we pretty much have no permission from Nintendo to use screenshots and the images....
Do you think we can get sued/in trouble?

Random Nintendo (and VF too) are not trying to make any money off of the sites or anything like that. So, I think it's perfectly fine.

Whether it's for money or not, it's illegal to use their images, names, ect.. But since Nintendo and other gaming companies know that there's gonna be lots of fans using fan-made images, like for siggies or avatars, to show that they're loyal fans, they won't do anything. Unless they were making money.
Besides... it would be extremely hard to sue MILLIONS of users.

But since Nintendo and other gaming companies know that there's gonna be lots of fans using fan-made images, like for siggies or avatars, to show that they're loyal fans, they won't do anything. Copyrights are a pretty odd bird. There are a lot of things that seem like they would be ok, but aren't, and vise versa. Like JSR said, RN is not doing anything that specifically breaks a copyright, so it should be just fine.

If Nintendo were to sue every fan that had a site or made something else in the likeness of one of their copyrighted things, they'd quickly find all of their fans headed for another company.

Yeah, they wouldn't want all their customers to disappear just because they used some of their images.
