This chang is to help parents selecting games for their family. Under the E10+ games with mild cartoon violence, and mild language will fall. This means that we will see racing games with heavy crashing in them as E10+ or possible the new mario game. Personally I think the change is pointless. Two categories or E is just overkill.
Your thoughts on this change?

I think it's a good idea to include a new rating, but there's two things I don't like about the E10+ rating. First of all, what's with the name? Everyone 10+ sounds really weird... I think it would have been much better if the ESRB decided to revive the old "Kids To Adults" rating, which is what E10+ basically is. My second complaint is where the new rating has been placed. I think it would have been much more beneficial for the industry if there was a rating between Teen and Mature, oppose to Everyone and Teen. The Mature rating covers a lot of different things and some Mature-rated games barely deserve the M rating. I really think that it would have been better to have a rating for not-quite-Mature games.

I think its a great move.
But I also really think that they should have made a rating between AO and M
M to me, is language, intense violence....ect
AO is like over the top
a new rating, maybe it can be called: YOUNG ADULTS or something

Well, as far as a rating between T and M...it is only 4 years difference, so besides putting something like 15+ I don't see the difference it would make. I have rarely seen an M game that did not deserve it. In fact, if the content is borderline usually the developer will pull stuff to make the game T. Also, I don't see the need for a rating between M and AO because no game has ever recieved and AO, rating...so which ones would recieve the Young Adult one? I guess they could change games like the GTA series to Young Adult, but I still dont think many games would risk being labeled something like that.

Actually, a few games have received the AO rating. I wouldn't reccomend any of them, though. The list can be found hereI think the rating is pointless, myself. All I see it doing is making even more Nintendo games fall into the E category and be seen as kiddy. Also, games with a regular E will be treated as games for little kids. It's just going to hurt Nintendo's image, if you ask me.

It's good that they include the age, but it's bad in that more rates can cause confusion for parents. I think the ESRB needs to change to the age-based system that Europe uses. If they don't want to do that, get rid of 'Mature' and replace it with 'Adult Only'. Mature rated games are meant for Adults, so why not make it self-explanatory with an 'Adult Only' label?

I think the change is good in a sense. Although, parents really only buy games for kids over 10...so, why do we need it? I dono.

No, I would be very dissapointed if games like HALO were the ones to be rated AO. Halo is a violent game, but when it comes down to it I really think the ESRB should have rated it Teen. "Mature" is something I would like to see used less often by the ESRB, saved especially for titles like Eternal Darkness and the Metal Gear Solid series. Those are games that you actually do have to be mature to even fully understand what is going on. As for blood, I really dont see it as something someone has to be really mature to handle. If they dont see it in video games, they are going to see it in movies. Halo is definately not the most gory series around, and it would be unfair to give it an AO rating with titles like the MK series around and getting an M. I do believe, on the other hand, that the Grand Theft Auto series should have an AO rating. Though I personally find the game dull and unenjoyable, a lot of kids are attracted to it because you can kill whoever you want and sleep with hookers. I think if it recieved and AO rating it would be a big deterrant to parents who buy those games for their kids. It still eludes me how those games get such great ratings when they have such obvious flaws and mediocre gameplay.

As for GTA, if it was AO it wouldnt sell at all. most chains dont carry AO in the store levels.

I think it should just stay the same. And as GrenCloud8 said I don't think Halo should have an "M" rating. Maybe a "T" because there is no swares. It's just violence. I think people these days do not know how to rate. But for the new ratings, no why have more than a person can handle.
