Namco has announced that Soul Calibur 3 would come out around the end of 2005. Whats even more surprising is that they made it a PS2 exclusive. Now I do have a PS2, but that's not fair. PS2 already has Tekken. Not like PS2 needs anymore fighting games. Here's more info on it: ps2.ign.com/articles/598/598424p1.htmlSo what's your take on this?

I'm really surprised that SCIII is a PS2 exclusive. Soul Calibur II sold the best on GameCube, so you'd think that Namco would release its sequel on GCN... Sony must have given Namco a lot of money to convince them to make SCIII a PS2 exclusive.

Well, the main reason that the GC version sold the best is because they put Link in it, now, let's face it..if Link wasn't in or if it didn't have an exclusive deal with any of the companies, no one outside of Tekken and other fighting game fans would know too much about it or be interested in it. Since it is obvious that they wanted to eliminate exclusive characters for this one, the biggest fan base was currently on the PS2, which their Tekken series has done quite well on. (I can't say I like it too much though) So, this looks to me like their best possible move.

LINK a Nintendo character is on a diffrent game system and Sony and Nintendo are rivals so Sony is using something Nintendo made. That's cheap!

Kirbster, Link WONT be in SCIII. Soul Calibur III is going to flop because of people like me who despise Namco for making such a moronic decision. I have a ps2, but I won't be buying SCIII out of protest.
EDIT: No problemo kirbster, just saying that there is no way Nintendo would liscense to Namco to use Link if it wasn't going to appear on their system.

Namco was looking at their lineup for 2005 and saw that it was looking rather weak. Soul Calibur II was probably based around PS2 hardware, so it might have been an easier task to take that existing engine and create a PS2 follow-up. I don't know though. I don't see Sony shelling out cash for an exclusive that won't mean much.

Its not because of that Freak, its because theres been a buzz that some money from Sony was involved. Namco has tons of good games that are out now and later for 2005(Tekken 5, Ace Combat 5, etc.) You would think that since Namco made Donkey Konga, Star Fox Assault, Jungle Beat and making Mario Baseball, they would be nice enough to let the Gamecube have SC3.

Just so everybody knows, Nokia has put out money to get support for the N-Gage. That said, the PS2 isn't the N-Gage. I don't see why Sony would pay Namco off to get an exclusive fighting game, just as the Xbox 2 will be coming out (if it's released in 2005), and not soon after the PS3 will be released in 2006 (perhaps spring/summer).

Actually Soul Calibur 2 was originally made with the Triforce arcade board developed by Nintendo/Namco/Sega. I believe the original was built for GC, though I am not positive. Namco has always released SC titles in arcades before the home, and if they don't follow suit with SCIII it will just prove to me more that they just want another money-making sequel.

Well, that explains why SCII was on GameCube. I wonder if SCIII will be based on PS2 technology, instead of the Triforce board.

Although my first reaction was one of suprise, the more I thought about it, the less suprised I was. A lot of games are coming out for the GC months, even years after they come out for the PS2 or Xbox. (Ghost Recon 2 for example.)
