www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=6240News Article: Square Enix Applauds Nintendo's WiFi Movement News Date: 05/11/2005 Source: Watch Impress Link: www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20050511/s_e.htm Discuss it in TalkBack! [2 Comments.] Online Square-Enix games for the Revolution? Perhaps. Japanese site Watch Impress reports that RPG juggernaut Square Enix is excited about Nintendo's wireless online strategy. According to the story, Square Enix president Youichi Wada praised Nintendo's effort to create a seamless user experience, eliminating many of the hassles currently associated internet gaming. Interestingly, the executive focuses on the Revolution, not the DS. Wada's statements suggest Nintendo's philosophy meshes with Square Enix's vision of a strong game-network culture, citing the interaction among players in his company's flagship online title, Final Fantasy XI. Square Enix is one of the biggest proponents of online play and downloadable games in Japan, and its support would be a huge boon for Nintendo. With any luck, Square Enix will clarify its support of Nintendo's online strategy next week at E3 2005. Jeff Shirley contributed to this article. ------------------- NG: Hmmm...

I bet we'll hear a lot more about this at E3.

This is from IGN: cube.ign.com/articles/611/611909p1.html"One area that Wada seems to be impressed with is a particularly controversial side of Nintendo's Online plan. In his comments posted at Impress Game Watch yesterday, Iwata states that Nintendo is going through with the idea of letting players connect only to players whom they've met in real life. While it's unclear how strict Nintendo plans to be with this idea (Animal Crossing DS is reported to allow for play amongst strangers), Wada applauds the move in his comments today, stating "It gives the image of taking the real world seamlessly into the virtual world." This new structure could lead to a number of changes in the current network gaming system, with Wada suggesting "the means of building a community will be completely different, and support and services will also change." @ *referring to bold* Now 'this' here is interesting. This is like another option of playing online games that's well suited for the right approiate gaming audience. One option is to play against random strangers. The other option is to play games with your friends that you know in real life(good for like parents who wanna watch their kids, or creating a good social gaming community). That really balances out. Since i'm a balanced gamer, i'm going for both options. ^_^
