Now that Justin has written an article explaining the history of Kid Icarus, I thought we could discuss what a new one might be like. I know me and Justin always thought this game was way under-appreciated. I love this game as much as I love any of the Nintendo classics.
In my opinion Kid Icarus seems like a series that would work perfect as a 3d/3rd person/Action-Platformer. For some reason I always saw Kid Icarus destined for 3D (despite my reservations about Metroid). I would give Pit the ability to fly, but perhaps place a stamina bar to limit his ability. I also believe in the case of art style, Kid Icarus should stay fairly light-hearted. Anyone who knows me might find this odd, but it just does not seem right to have this series go completely mature. I would say find a happy medium between something that older gamers would give a chance, while at the same time keeping with the original game's theme. Another thing this game needs is FANTASTIC music. I want to be able to hear the music, and I want it memorable. It would be awesome if they would even re-mix a few of the old tunes that are just classic.
Another cool feature I'd like to see them incorporate would be some type of Co-op play. Perhaps there could be another character introduced in the series that plays a lesser role. I have come to love Co-op in a lot of games because it makes great games better, and even average games fun. I really can't explain how they should best go about putting in co-op (maybe split screen?), but either way I think it would be a great experience.
I really think Nintendo dropped the ball with this series, they should have made this game when the N64 first came out. Kid Icarus 64 would have been a smash hit IMO, and could have triggered another great series along side the other classics. Sadly, I am not as optimistic about the future of Kid Icarus as Justin is. I almost feel that Nintendo enjoys teasing the people who were around to play the first game (Pit Trophy, Eggplant comments).
I will say one last thing though, If Nintendo announces a Kid Icarus game, the chances of me getting a revolution will go way up.

I almost feel that Nintendo enjoys teasing the people who were around to play the first game (Pit Trophy, Eggplant comments). I will say one last thing though, If Nintendo announces a Kid Icarus game, the chances of me getting a revolution will go way up. I agree, a 3rd Person action/platformer would be a great way to bring back Icarus. And the stamina bar is actually a great idea. Until the end of the game, Pit was unable to fly without the use of items, so all flight was done in limited amounts. I don't think that would really work well in 3D (the use of items) so this would serve as a great way to still have flying, but prevent you from being able to do it at all times. I would be a bit surprised about your comments on it not needing to grow up too much had you not already told me. I'm personally in favor of giving the series a little edge as I think the setting would go great with it. I'm not asking for a God of War's bloodfest, but a think a darker, grown up version of the game would be nice. Angel Land has serious potential to be almost as creepy as Zebes. But really, it's not like Kid Icarus was entirely childish. Take "Kid" out of the title and make Pit a little older and the series would already be well on its way to what I envision a future title as. I just hope they shoot for a T rating. I find Metroid Prime to be a very mature title (not because of violence), and I would like Kid Icarus to take on a similar position. If they do opt for a light-hearted style though, I'll still be floored. I need a new Kid Icarus title. Great music that really stands out is a must. While I find Metroid Prime's music great, it's often too far into the background to be extremely memorable. I think Kid Icarus has an advantage here though. In the environments found in the series, it seems like the music has to stand out. In a series like Metroid, something set in a sci-fi space world, I can see why Retro went with that direction, although I don't agree with it. One last comment, which I pretty much said in the article, is they really need to implement the FHC. The potential is endless with Kid Icarus. Oh, and I'll keep bugging you to buy a Revolution with or without Kid Icarus. Maybe you'll finally cave in when the launch day arrives.

I know you guys will probably laugh at me but I never made it past the first level.
Question: who should be the villain? The Eggplant Wizard? He seems more of the lackey type, even if he is cool. The flight thing ought to work like in Super Mario 64, but with a slight touch of Starfox (being able to shoot). And yeah, the stamina bar would definitely work. Wouldn't it be cool if it were cel-shaded? Sure, Kid Icarus might not have been all kiddy, but I think seeing Pit through candyvision (my word for celshading) would be awesome.

I wouldn't mind cel-shading. It is to bad I couldn't see it both ways and then decide.

If Nintendo does decide to make a new Kid Icarus game for Revolution, I think that they should use Justin's idea of using the controller to fly and pull back Pit's bow. I think that could work out really well and be a great way to show off the features of the "revmote."

The only bad thing about moving the controller up and down to fly is, how would you shoot arrows and fight back at the same time?

You know, I always thought that big fat A Button beneath the D-Pad was there for a reason...

Nice Pilgrim, however, it still doesn't solve the problem. If you are having to move your hand up and down, it is going to be complicated to keep do that while hitting buttons to shoot.

Smart-ass Yeah, the response was uncalled for. I think Pilgrim has a problem with responding in a decent way to anyone has a different view of something. Sometimes it actually pays off to be polite. Anyways, I would assume my solution would work. It may not be perfect, but it isn't up to me to find out the best way, I only throw out ideas I think are interesting.

The B button on the bottom of the controller would probably work the best when flying. I think it will be the most comfortable button to use when swinging the controller since a finger is on it anyway.

And I think you guys take what I say far too seriously. If you were to meet me in real life instead of on the Net, (I've been told) I'm actually very polite, but sarcastic at times. This is one of those times. I was being sarcastic. Sarcasm is as good as manners, you know. Besides, I thought the A Button would work, but now that you mention it, it does sound iffy. Also, the music ought to be orchestrated, if not Celtic-sounding, like Crystal Chronicles. It would such an enchanting soundtrack like that... *begins to daydream*

I believe that Kid Icarus is like the love child of Mario & Castlvania. XD don't ask where I got that from. A new Kid Icarus game would be sweet. Would have been a good N64 games, but they could probably do something really special on the Revolution.

Thusly, Mario Bros. + Castlevania = crazy delicious
Wonder where you got that Castlevania-ish vibe from, though... There's pretty much absolutely nothing connecting KI or CV... Besides the fact that they both share annoying enemies (Medusa Heads are the bane of my existence).

Well I guess slight gameplay mechanics, but it was the only other game of that time that it seemed to be like I guess. As far as the monsters and the theme. Please don't hit me. *goes into fetal position*
