I made a trip to our local Target to check out what they had, and I found a ps3 on display, and was able to be played on, so i did so. Here is what i liked, and didnt like.
I liked the nice, clean, futuristic look of the system. It was a bit bigger then the ps2 in comparision. The demo that i played was nice (but still a demo) and looked very clean, fluid, and graphically sweet. The controller, which is called the SixAxis Dual Shock controller, is almost exactly like the ps2's, but with wireless out of the box (Bluetooth 2.0), has a media button (like the xbox 360's), and can do things like sense movement like pitch, yaw, roll, tilt, ect., just like the name suggests. The HDD is upgradable to any 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive, unlike the 360's. Sony is also making the network play (online play) free, just like the psp's infrustruture Wifi play, and also features the XMB crossbar menu like the PSP.
The things that i didnt like about it is that the thing is about $100 more then i would want it for, blu-ray or not. The cheapest model ($499) doesnt have the media memory slots (SD memory card and Sony mem. stick slots), or the 802.11 G/B wifi built in, which is significant to people like me who are out of reach from there internet router. Plus, Sony made it impossible to ship 2 million units to N. America, making demand out ragious. The next big shipment is in MARCH!!!, that is unacceptible!

I meant released so far. How many were in America? I know that in Japan they got less than 500,000. Unless Europe had it's releases.
Well this is really pulling out the greed, wrath, and stupidity of people. People hurting others to get a god damned piece of plastic. Hell, one dude even got shot. Then greedy ****** ******* are selling them on ebay, and hell, som aren't even really selling them on ebay, but have scams on there, because they know poeple are stupid enough to have a fake desperation for one. If you check out ebay, the systems are up in the thousands.

The PlayStation 3 is ridiculous. The controller's "unique functionality" is actually a ripoff to the Wii controller. Gaming magazines can't hide the obvious with fancy words. That technology would not be there had Nintendo not introduced the Wii controller. What's worse is that their Blu-ray is flawed. And by flawed, I mean that out of those 40K PS3s that were shipped, almost 50% will end up not working. The PS3 on display at my local Target fell victim to that already. All this hype and madness for a worthless machine? It just bothers me. It's sickening how Sony thinks they can get away with purposefully not supplying as many as 2 mil PS3s just to hype it up, turn up the price to ridiculous numbers, and just leave it a crappy piece of crap in the end anyway. Sony screws the world again! And we let them do this to us!

actually, the technology has been available for a while now, but no one has ever really utilized it until now...

Haha, in the end, the stupid are prooven even mroe stupid (not you Alex), the people who had to go out and cause chaos to get a freakign system.

Just to make a correction, the controller is called SixAxis. It is no longer referred to as dual-shock because the ps3 controller does not rumble. Also, I played a ps3 demo unit and Motostorm at my local EB. Terribly unimpressed. Nice draw distance, but a bad physics engine and graphics that don't look any nicer than mediocre 360 games aren't going to tempt me to drop 600 dollars on that beast.

Generally speaking, PS3 fails. Not because I'm anti-Sony (nay, PS2 and PSP have both given me some wonderful experiences), but because basically all systems suck at launch. Especially in Sony's/Microsoft's case.
"Yarr, I'm going to shoot you for this overpriced game console which won't have any redeeming software until this time next year! Rawr and stuff."
...honestly, Dreamcast is the only thing that comes to mind that had a wonderful launch lineup.

Wii just seems like a gimmick as of late tbh, I don't care for Zelda and Trauma Center/Monkey Ball don't equate to being worth a $200+ price tag. Red Steel's getting bad press too, a shame. And after the atrocity that was the PS360 Sonic game, I'm not getting my hopes up for Sonic and the Secret Rings either. Excite Truck just doesn't appeal to me. So yeah.

Hey, man, be positive. You're ignoring Zelda? And Sonic and the Secret Rings, which looks like the best Sonic game to date? The controls aren't gimmicky at all; the thing is, you probably haven't even played a demo yet. So unless you go out and play a demo, you shouldn't be talkin' crap about the Wii. Besides that, I had fun with the next-gen Sonic. The only thing I hated was the Tails parts... will that kid ever get a good spot? Or good acting? It's a tough time to be a Tails fan... Well, that and the acting. Seriously, it was bad, worse than in Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic was pretty much emotionless, Tails sounded even girlier than he did previously, and even Eggman's usually decent acting was horrid. Well, anyway, I liked the Next-Gen Sonic (save for a few flaws), and I think that numbers will tell what a great launch the Wii has enjoyed.

I fiind the games good, but jsut not my fave either. I have noticed a trend in Sonic games. With each new game, the series gets crappier. Not that the older Sonic games are bad. If the kid doesn't want a Wii, don't force the Wii on him. I want a Wii more than I do with the X360 I own, but I probanly won't get one til at the least near the end of 2007, or 2008.

I knew about the Sixaxis controller naming, just to clear some things up. But just to make a little correction, the physics in the game demo is run mostly by the game, not the system, infact, it might have the best physics processing power (which it should, since it is the most powerful comercially purchasable piece of technology available). I have heard that in japan, the ps3's price tag has already been cut.
