Update: Kuju Not After Dracula
Company denies rumors that it's making a Castlevania sequel.
April 05, 2004 - Last week IGNcube published a rumor article which stated that developer Kuju Entertainment could be working on a Castlevania title exclusively for Nintendo's console. Today a spokesperson for the company contacted IGNcube and flatly denied involvement with any such project.
"There is absolutely no truth in the story that ran," said Kuju spokesperson Alison Beasley. "Kuju is absolutely not working on a Castlevania game."
The rumor stemmed from a cryptic message board post written by Kuju's quality assurance manager Asad Habib. After a query about job opportunities, Habib wrote: "Castlevania for Cube!!!" This led many, IGNcube included, to speculate that the company could secretly be working on Castlevania title for GameCube. When it was later learned that Kuju had previously announced a partnership with Konami, the clues seemed to fall into place.
But the partnerships are totally unrelated, according to Beasley. "Asad is a Castlevania and GameCube fan and the comment he made was expressing a personal wish, nothing more," she said.
"The GameCube title that [Kuju] is developing for Nintendo will be announced in due course by Nintendo and until that time we will not be making any comment on the game whatsoever other than to reiterate that Kuju is clearly delighted to be working with Nintendo on this game," added Beasley, who remarked that the company's separate project for Konami would be announced shortly.
