Well, looks like Resident Evil 4 managed to pull in a respectable 319,000 units its opening month. Not exactly what the game deserved, but very good nonetheless. cube.ign.com/articles/588/588353p1.htmlThere is a link. On a related note, Resident Evil 4 has sold through 180,000 units in Japan as of this week

At least it should easily outperform RE/RE0.

I'm glad that it was the #1 selling game in January. But, it would have been nice if it sold a little better.

Well, on just single platforms, RE4 was number one. But, if we're talking just a single title (but it can be on multiple platforms), RE4 was number two. It was barely outbeat by Mercenaries with a little under 70k units.

If it has a 500k total by February's end, I will be pleased. Capcom expected 1.8 million for the title, but I doubt it'll cross 250k in Japan at the rate it is going, so it's going to need to sell 750-800k in the U.S. and Europe to make up for it, and I'm not sure if it can. We'll see, though, hopefully word of mouth pushes it to a million in the U.S.
I think both Capcom and Nintendo were stupid in terms of when the game was released. It should have been the sole holiday title for GameCube, and should have received a big marketing push. Instead, Nintendo opted for Metroid, which was beaten by Splinter Cell in 2002, to go up against Halo 2 and GTA. Great plan. Now it seems both games are going to sell less than they should.

We all know Nintendo isn't the smartest company around, give them a break. Seriously though, they made a mistake by releasing the DS with no major titles (a port of a N64 game doesn't qualify). They killed the GCN last year with their miniscule support, both marketing and 1st party, and their press team at Golin Harris just isn't up to par with the others in the industry. Resident Evil 4 should be a multi-million selling game. It would have been, if it was released on any other system (a PS2 version comes out later this year).

I agree that Capcom and Nintendo should have gotten RE4 out in time for the 2004 Holiday Season. They could have marketed Metroid Prime 2 and RE4 as the GameCube's must-have games. But, instead of doing that, Nintendo decided to put Prime 2 up against Halo 2.... That was a big mistake.

That's what made me want to wait for DS; lack of 1st Party support. Mario 64 DS and a Metroid demo were all the games Nintendo offered, and the only really NEW game for the DS was Feel the Magic and some other games. I really want RE4 to do well. Nintendo is releasing a limited edition RE4 GCN in Europe to coincide with the release. They did the same with MGS:TS, so that's cool. It's made about 500k already, 319k here and nearly 200k in Japan.
