Either way not a lot will. It could've been an instance where it was popular then but didn't quite stick as the years went on.
I didn't know what Metroid was until Smash Brothers came out, for example, even if it was still popular at the time.

I'm not surprised. Games like Metroid and Castlevania are aimed primarily for the hardcore gamer; rarely ever does a casual gamer pick up one of those titles and actually finishes them, much less play them. That being said, the hardcore crowd is a dying breed, so I tend to think that these game franchises need better ways to appeal to all types of gamers. Hopefully, the Wii can provide an answer.

I was seven, so don't say I was a 'casual' gamer, even if I really don't care for games as much anymore. Oh, and about the n00bs, they're everywhere. If you get on Wi-Fi, just wait until Pokemon Diamond and Pearl come out, assuming the DS Action Replay has D&P codes on it and Nintendo has no filters on those kinds of devices.

I didn't have a N64 so until I played SSB at my friend's place the only Nintendo characters I knew were Mario and co., Kirby and co., Ness, and Link. Oh and Pokemon.

Earthbound 2 (i think) is one of the classic RPGs. I loved it.

It didn't really appeal to me.
We get to use our neighbour's games/memory cards/controllers while they're away. They have SSBM, so that's cool.
