Henceforth, all Julys will be known as UGAM (Underrated Game Appreciation Month), where we can talk about and praise games that, sadly, were shadowed in favor of hogwash like San Andreas (BOOOOORRRRIIIING!).
Allow me to begin: (ahem!)
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness (For the N64).
You all hated it, but why? It was probably because its release was ill-timed. After Symphony of the Night completely redesigned the gameplay, LoD went back to the NES Vania's gameplay. Also, it was released around the release of Dreamcast, so nobody cared. However, its only true problems were in the fact that enemies weren't very numerous in the later levels, the graphics weren't that great, and that the camera system (while it isn't a total mess) could have been tweaked. I mean, there are several up points here-- the storyline, for one, was awesome (I'd even say that it stomps a mudhole in SotN's storyline's ass), the characters were deep and had believable personalities, the boss fights were some of the most entertaining highlights of the game (you have to see the Deformed Werewolf. You. Have. To), the levels are cleverly designed, the musical score (While not as toe-tapping as SotN's) was creepy and downright unnerving, and the voice clips (How very few there were) are actually very well-done. On a scale of 0 through 10, I'd give this overlooked masterpiece an 8.9. Bear in mind, Igarashi (SotN's director) did not create Castlevania, nor did he work on LoD. The original two who made Castlevania (I can't remember their names) wrote the story to LoD, along with supervising it.
Now, it's your turns. Go ahead, and name off the game that you think people never gave enough attention to, or just berated for no reason. Have fun!
