www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/states/new_jersey/13522047.htmPosted on Sat, Dec. 31, 2005 Angry neighbors paint over Sony's graffiti-style ads Graffiti-style advertisements by Sony Corp. to promote its PlayStation Portable gaming system at three sites in North and South Philadelphia have been painted over by irate neighbors, city officials said yesterday. The ads, featuring bug-eyed youngsters with PlayStation Portables, were stenciled onto walls with spray paint this week. The locations were Girard Avenue near 15th and Eighth Streets and Passyunk Avenue in the Queen Village section of South Philadelphia. Two of the ads were painted over Thursday night or early yesterday, and one was painted over earlier this week, officials said. Pedro Ramos, city managing director, said: "The ads were illegal because they lacked proper zoning and licenses. They were phony, in that they were commercial advertising masquerading as something else. And they are disrespectful of the neighborhoods where Sony thought it could get away with this conduct." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vernon Clark ==================== NG: So much for those ads. Sony did not see that coming. Those neighbors are really annoyed.

*another update* psp.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=2243&pg=1&comments=full#commentsGraffiti Is Still Graffiti January 10, 2006 by: Ryan Olsen New York wants Sony to remove its advertising campaign. New York is not happy with Sony right now. They are asking that the company remove all their graffiti ads and contribute $20,000 to the anti-graffiti fund all for a recent marketing scheme. Sony, who bought and licensed the wall space in seven cities for the PSP ads, said they have done no wrong. Part of the issue is that residents of New York were complaining that the ads were “eyesores” and other graffiti artists have defaced the ads with anti-Sony remarks. Sony sticks by their PSP graffiti ads by saying it's a “different” way to market. source: gamesindustry.biz ----------------------------------------- NG: Man, Sony has really gone low with this PSP grafitti advertising campaign. Sony sticks by their PSP graffiti ads by saying it's a “different” way to market. Like saying child porn is a "different" form of art. Just because it is different does not mean that it is not wrong.
