Like most of you guys, I defintelly voted for a 'balance' of both.
2D Metroids for the traditionalists who grew up with the classics. 3D Metroids for the non-traditionalists(even though the MP series still has it's Metroid roots)
And I agree with greg's equation opinion about how the Metroid series should go, definitely. Though, I still would love to see a traditional 2D metroid for home consoles, too. I guess that's ultamately up to Nintendo to decide that.

I figure we'll be able to download Metroid and Super Metroid, so we can get the 2D fix on Revolution anyways. I still think 2D is executed on the small screen better than 3D is, and when consoles, I just think 3D should be the standard, in most cases. If Metroid Prime sucked, I could see 2D console versions, but since it didn't, no need.
The only way I'd like a 2D Metroid on a console is if a different developer did it, whenever Retro works on an original title. Don't tie up too many development houses, if you know what I mean.

Retro did a good job on the Prime games. They might not be as good as the first few... Wait, actually, I hated the very first Metroid, so I'll just say they weren't as good as Super Metroid. Anyway, they might not be as good as that SNES uberclassic, but at least they shot for the stars and obliterated the moon... Whatever that means.

I am just scratching my head wondering how you could hate the first Metroid, but love Super Metroid. Super Metroid took all the great things about Metroid and improved upon them, but the base game is really almost the same.

The differences between the first and Super? "M A P S Y S T E M." I continuously got lost in the first Metroid due to the fact that, perhaps due to limited technology, all the hallways looked pretty much the same. "B O S S E S." In the first, Ridley and Kraid were pretty easy. Super Metroid has a few nasty surprises, tougher bosses included. You'll hate me when I say this, but Super Matroid makes the first Metroid look like a joke.

I can see your point of view, but I completely disagree with it. You do have to remember that metroid 1 was out years before, and most of the things you named for Super Metroid were improvements upon on already great game (IMO).
I'd say that if what you say is true, then wouldn't that be true for a lot of great games? Mario Bros. 1 in comparison to Mario 3 could be considered a joke if you compare them the same way you compare the metroid series. It is all about how great a game was for its time.

I agree with thelimper fully. Super Metroid had everything to build on and a much more powerful system to run on. It's still a better game, but it had a lot of advantages and it certainly doesn't make Metroid a bad game, in fact it's an amazing title.
On the bosses, they were bigger and meaner in Super Metroid, but they definitely weren't as hard. Metroid was a very difficult game and Ridley, Kraid and Mother Brain weren't a joke. They could kick your ass in about five hits and you're very limited on how many e-tanks you could have.

At this point, I can take them down easily, but they were beasts the first run through. Super Metroid's bosses, on the other hand, are all pretty easy, right down to the last boss. It's not really a falt, they just aren't as hard as Metroid's bosses.

I think Metroid is harder than Super Metroid. The difference is Super Metroid is longer and has more bosses.
When you first enter Kraid's area in the original I can remember dying a lot. Until you start getting energy packs and other items it could be very frustrating.
