Before Prime came out, I only knew this ruthless female bounty hunter from the SSB series. And I instantly fell in love with Metroid Prime (although i never quite completed the game - too damn scary!), and I also loved MP2: Echoes. And guess what! I left the game with only about 8 hours of gameplay about a year ago, also due to the game being too damn scary, but now i'm back and aiming to complete it!
Well anyway, I saw the RN special the "Metroid Week", and learnt more about the history of this lonely fighter. I also saw a preview of MP Hunters, and I'm considering getting a DS (yes, I know I'm a bit late).
Well so I thought, after MP3 has been released, why don't Nintendo and Retro Studios join forces once again and bring all the classic metroid games into the MP environment, that is, a 3D FPS/Adventure, just like MP and MP2. Of course, with extended storylines/new bosses etc.
What do you guys think?

While that would be kind of cool, I would much rather see them take the time developing new hits to the series. I am also an old school purist, and I think it would bother me a little if all the classics were messed with.
I like metroid in 2D more than 3D, even though the Prime series is very good.
I think a lot of people who never played Metroid before prime would like your suggestion though.

As far as Metroid goes, I'm an either/or. Super Metroid and Metroid Prime are kick-ass. The first Metroid failed to wow me, and Metroid Fusion quickly became Metroid Frustration after the first boss (Where am I again?). So either way will work for me, but maybe not with others.

I never completed Metroid Prime. I wasn't totally in love with it, and I've only played a demo of MP2. My main reason for this is that the looking around was a pain in the butt for me. I would have rather it have a more freeform looking around like in a normal FPS game. However I will get MPH for the DS. I loved the demo and ate it up. I wouldn't want a remake of Metroid and Metroid 2 however. The games just aren't really long enough for it to be remade, plus I'd rather see new Metroid games. I wonder what MP3 will be like, however I'm not sure if I will be able to get a next-gen system.

I voted to leave them as they are, I would rather just have new entries into the series. I'm not, however, against porting Super Metroid to the DS with maybe a couple of new features. I straight port would be fine too, but I doubt they would do it for the GBA and I would assume Nintendo would put at least some functions on the bottom screen.

I would like to see a new game called "Super Samus Billiards" where all the pool balls would be little Samus's in morph ball form!! You could do battle with the dastardly Ridley, the meanest pool shark in the galaxy!

I see... I love it when there's a mixture of opinions. Yeah, Nintendo definitwely should add new ones as well. But i still reckon making old ones into 3D would be nice. But that's just my personal opinion, so yeah.

My vote goes to Maybe. I think that if Retro and Nintendo were to remake old Metroid games, it could work out pretty well. The only problem, to me at least, is that it will alienate the hardcore Metroid fans. I'm pretty sure that most of them would be against the near-perfect Super Metroid being completely redone in 3D. They would probably go for a 2D Super Metroid remake, like Justin suggested, but not much more than that.

Hmm... I really really would like to play this Super Metroid game. Haven't heard a single bad thing about it anywhere.

You should play it, it's an amazing title that holds up just as well today as it did in '94. On the subject once more, the only game I would really like to see a 3D remake of is Metroid II: Return of Samus. As I mentioned in the timeline, I don't think it got enough credit because of the limited technology of the Game Boy. A 3D, fully-colored trip to SR388 would be really nice.

Metroid 2 was one of literally hundreds of great Game Bot games that went neglected. People keep saying that Tetris was the GB's killer app, but come on! Super Mario Land 1 and 2, Metroid 2, Earthworm Jim, Wario Land, all of the Castlevanias, and Kid Icarus: Myths and Monsters were awesome. Well, actually, I've never played M2 before... But it's probably in a local game shop somewhere.

Metroid 2 is quite different than the other metroids, but still very enjoyable. It places a complete emphasis on wiping out metroids from the start.
Your whole purpose is to hunt down every metroid and destroy it, and a lot of them look way different than you have ever seen them before.
I think it is funny how nintendo always makes the 2nd game of a big franchise a lot different from the first (Mario, Zelda, Metroid).

It was definitely a different take on the series, and like you said, that seems to be some sort of weird tradition for Nintendo, at least in the early years.

First of all, I'm glad you like the Prime series, but for me, the Prime series pretty much killed my second favorite gaming series. The first being Zelda (besides WW, good but not Zelda enough for me). I guess I'm just a classic guy. 5 of my top favorite games are 16-bit. I believe Metroid and Zelda belong on the SNES and GBA (or other platforms as long as it's 16-bit style graphics). And of course, my first love was Metroid for NES. I loooooved Metroid Zero Mission and very much enjoyed Metroid Fusion too (both for GBA).
I recently bought Metroid Prime: Hunters for DS, and I enjoy this much more than the GC version because it's an FPS. MP for GC didn't work for me because it's an FPS that denies itself proper existence. Give me free look or give me another game. But still, that said, I still wouldn't want my babies (old-school Metroid) to be Prime-ised. I just love the look of side-scrolling, 16-bit, Samus.
Just call me old-school...or misguided...or wrong...whatever want, but stuborn bugger, so I won't change.
