Hey everyone,
As Oscar stated in this thread yesterday, we have decided to remove the Off-Topic Discussion board temporarily. The reason for this decision is a simple one: it got too spammy.
Since last April or so, the forums have slowly been getting more and more spammy. And unfortunately, this led to many of our long-time members leaving. In fact, in the last week or two, the forums have slowed down to a crawl with very few posts a day. We've been issuing numerous warnings about the spam and banned a few people. But sadly, the spam just kept on coming.
So now, we have no choice. The root of the spam, the Off-Topic Discussion board, is being temporarily removed. It will be gone for as long as it takes to get the forums back to their spam-free golden days. It could be gone for a few weeks or a few months... I honestly don't know. The Off-Topic board will return when the RN staff feels its appropriate.
We're also going to be removing the Show Off board temporarily for pretty much the same reason. While it was originally a good place for people to show off their websites and signatures, it too has become spammy. Just like the Off-Topic board, the Show Off board will be gone temporarily.
In the end, this isn't nearly as bad as you may think. From day one, the RN Forums have been a place to discuss the latest Nintendo news and games. Over the past few months, this focus has shifted as the RN Forums became more of a "free for all" than anything else. Now, we're refocusing the forums. We're once again emphasizing why we're all here: Nintendo and video games. Hopefully, we can all get back on track and once again have good, interesting discussions about gaming.
On a different note, I have two positive announcements to make. First of all, the way we handle the Site Feedback board is going to change. Since the launch of the current Random Nintendo, we've always wanted for the community to be involved. Whether it's through Reader Reviews or Fan Art, we love to have all of you be a part of the site. So now, we want your thoughts on our content. Starting this weekend, I will be making threads about RN content as it's uploaded to the site. The entire RN Staff would like to hear from you on our articles, reviews, and previews. So be sure to check out the Site Feedback board and share your thoughts on all of RN's content.
And finally, I'd like to announce that I'm going to be active again. In the last few months, I've barely been posting. That's going to change starting right now as I will once again be a regular participant on the forums. Of course, this also means that I, along with Oscar and BRO_co03, will be keeping an eye out for spam. But hopefully that won't be much of an issue anymore.
Thanks for your understanding, everyone. Hopefully these changes will make the RN Forums a better place.
