Animal Crossing Review By Sank90 (Sank)
Introduction-
The English version of Animal Crossing came out on September 16 2002 and stunned me. First off let me say that this game is so addicting. Everyday I would come home from school and play it for as long as I could. What makes this game great is that there is so much to do. You can earn money various ways, make friends with your villagers, fish, catch bugs, collect fish and bugs, paintings, and fossils to submit in your town museum, mail letters, design clothes, take place in various holidays, and so much more!
Story- 10/10
What I like about Animal Crossing is that you can create your own story as you go! The game starts off and your on a bus this is where you enter your name and the name of your town. Then you get to your town and you have to pay bells (the currency in the game) to the town shopkeeper because he sells you your house. Soon you maintain your town by plucking weeds from the ground and making sure that your town members are happy. What sets Animal Crossing apart from all other games is it takes place during acutal time. When you first play the game they ask you for the date, time, and year. So say you entered October 12th at 6 o'clock at night in 2002, when you start playing it would be fall you could tell by the trees and it would be sunset. It actually goes to day to night from what you put in as your real time from your clock. Also there are special activities on holidays. Say it was October 31, then everyone in the town is dressed up and costumes and you can give away candy and find Jack (the halloween character) and get exclusive halloween themed furniture! There are so many various holidays, which makes it fun! Also by connecting your GBA with a link cable you can see "Kappa" at the dock and he'll take you to your own island that has a few inhibitors. You can collect coconuts, catch exotic bugs, and even get a tan!
A. What's in your town?
- A Shop ran by Mr. Nook (this shop can get bigger and bigger as does your house)
- A Post Office
- A Museum
- A Clothes Designer Shop
- A Town Dump where people can dump items they don't want
- A Bulletin Board where you can write bulletins as can everyone else
- and a Police Station with a Lost and Found
B. Your House
You first start out with a small house with a few things inside. You can collect furniture to put in your house and other working things. You can also change the wallpaper and flooring to match with your decor. After you pay off your first debt Mr. Nook asks you if you want to upgrade your house, you then get get it bigger, then a basement, and then a second story! You can even paint your roof!
C. Town Members
There are 219 possible town members that you can get. There is usually around 15-20 maximum in your town. You can get all kind of animals from squirrels, to an octopus. In order for your town to b successful you have to keep them happy. This means you can just talk to them and even do them favors. The 'Story' gets a 10/10
Graphics- 8/10
I thought the graphics were great. I loved how they were so colorful and matched with the season you were in. So if you were in winter it would rain or snow and it looked awesome. They added lots of details like footprints that disappear after a few seconds whether your walking on the beach or on snow, and shadows. I loved how you character looked too. There are different faces you can get whether you choose to be a boy or a girl. I believe the graphics get a 8/10.
Gameplay- 8.5/0
I think they did wonders with the controls, I didn't have a problem with them at all. I like how you have an option to walk or run. Although running around your town to all different places does get a little annoying after sometimes. I didn't have a problem about the camera views either except for one. Sometimes when your walking around trees can get in the way of your view which can get annoying but most of the time they disappear so you can see what your doing. Although I hate usually hate games in where you can't really jump (only because I spazz when jumping) I liked how you weren't able to jump because there was no reason for you to. The concept was great because I think people like being in control of whatever they're doing. For gameplay I give this game a 8.5/10
Sound- 9.5/10
I loved the sound! The catchy fun music was the best and could just put a smile on your face. I loved it because usually when the bell rings, the music changes, the bell rang every hour. The sound effects were great in this game too! When it was raining you would hear rain. When you cast your reel in the water while fishing you hear the ploop, and even when you walk into a house you hear the door creak! My absolute favorite thing that has to do with sound in this game is how the characters talked to you. It's hard to describe, it's kind of high pitched but sped up and it sounds so hilarious! When it comes to sound on this game I am going to give it a whopping 9.5/10!
Replay Value- 10/10
This is a game with a VERY high replay value because you can take up where you left off, or you can just start all over and get into everything again! If your bored then just grap this game off your shelf and pop it in, you are sure to be entertained for a while! Also this game is so unbelievably addicting! For the replay value I am giving it a 10/10!
Closing Comments-
If you do not already own this game go out there and BUY it! It is surly a fun time and a classic to ad to your collection! With the soon release of Animal Crossing for DS that will take use of it's online wireless capabilities, you better get your practice in for it is sure to be a number one game for the DS. So as I said buy this game and you'll have a lot of fun with it.
Overall- 9.5/10
Overall I think this game deserves a score of 9.5/10, so go and play my Animal Crossing lovers!
