It's me again. With my 2nd review in a row.
The rating system I will use is 1-10 for each "section", and I will add up the points up to a max of 60. (Max of ten points for each review section.) Then I will calculate the added points, and give a "grade" rating.
The sequel to a popular game has arrived. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. I've never played the first game, I could never find it at any store, but Fun Trade now has a copy... just getting the money to get it is the problem when I'm trying to get other things... << I only get $60 every 2-3 weeks from my dad for helping him out (I don't have a job yet), so I gotta make that last. Anyways, here is my review.
Graphics:
Rating: 10/10
The graphics really do look great on this game. It doesn't use the DS's full potential, but not every game looks right with a system's full potential. Try to imagine this game with say, Metroid Prime: Hunters graphics... and you get what I mean.
Gameplay:
Rating: 9/10
This game is pretty darn fun. This game does pose a good challenge, and that's what I like. The way you can build up Mario & Luigi (and the babies) is a bit... well, you can increase each of their stats in whatever way you prefer. You can have one be speedy, one powerful, one with great defense or just have them all be close to the same. Just your preference. The gameplay is fun in whatever way you wanna play. Another thing, while this game is for the DS, it doesn't have any touch screen control.
Story:
Rating: 8/10
The same sort of story again. Rescue Princess Peach from the dreaded Bowser. But this time, he's not the only one involved. It's these Shroobs... basically, killer mushrooms from space. O.o;; Weird, but unique. And I like unique. You also have your baby selves involved. You end up going into the past in this game. You switch between the past and present. Overall, it's a weird, but good, unique story. Plus the story is funny. O.o
Controls:
Rating: 8/10
The controls are somewhat simple, but you do have to time your attacks in battle. Unless you're a really good timer, this game isn't the easiest one around. I'm still trying to "train" myself with it's timing. You can also use different unique items. Some are easy to use, but some are hard. Just depends really. If you're a pretty good timer, it may not be hard. For me, because I have carpal-tunnel syndrome, it does pose a challenge. But it doesn't bother me a whole lot. I'm just not as quick in the hands like I used to be (that's why for some games like button mashers, I use a turbo controller). But for everyone else, knock yourself dead.
Sound/Music:
Rating: 9/10
This game does have some weird music (but some is good), it does fit the game though. That's all that really matters to me. If it has a good tune, that's a plus in a game, but as long as it fits the atmosphere, that's good. The sounds are also good.. though baby Peach's cries do get a bit annoying.. the good thing though, you don't hear that alot.
Replayability:
Rating: 9/10
Though I haven't beaten the game yet (hey, I got other games I'm working on), I'm pretty sure that this game would be fun to play over again. I know I would play it over again. Other then that, there's really not much else I can say here.
Overall:
Rating: 53/60 (8.8 Grade)
While it's not the GREATEST game around, it is one to have in your collection. It is a fun game to have, and it's a good one to play if you're totally bored. It does pose it's challenges, but that's always needed in any game. Get the game if you haven't already. It's one to have in the DS collection.
