Try out Godfather: Blackhand Edition for Wii, especially if you haven't played it on any other system. Its a sandbox style game but is drastically different from GTA in what it focuses on. Whereas GTA values tons of side-quests, good music and tons of weapons and cars to collect, Godfather focuses mostly on the main story with hit missions and other side quests available to those who want more. The execution of the fighting/intimidating with the Wii remote is superb as well. Essentially your nunchuk is your left hand and your Wiimote is your right, and you can uppercut, jab, hook, grab and toss all very intuitively thanks to the Wii gesture system. Probably the most well-mapped gestures since launch, I have never had a problem with them. You can also use it for precision aiming to hit shoulders, knees, and headshots. The gameplay definately fits the Wii well and I definately prefer using the Wiimote to a normal controller in this case. The story is superb, most of the VAs including Brando did voices for the game, and it sticks pretty closely to the original. The score is also awesome. After I finished Zelda I have been playing a lot of minigame collections and simple games for the Wii (Warioware, Elebits) but it feels good to get another great playing game with a compelling story. So like I said, if you have the time rent Godfather:BHE for Wii. Great effort by EA, support it!
On another note, I have rented quite a few Wii games lately and I'll give a short synapsis on each:
Cooking Mama: Well, its still really hard and there are many more recipies than in the DS version, but overall the execution is lacking and the VA they chose for mama is horrible. Stick with the DS version for cooking, unless you REALLY have the urge to cook competetively, in which case it might be worth a look when it drops in price.
Excite Truck: Wow, blown away. At first I thought the idea was so stupid I never even bothered with it at launch, but after renting it my opinion changed. They really need to make this game with more goals/tracks/trucks/vehicles and definately online. The first game is awesome and seems like a truckers ode to Burnout or something, but it begs for a more complete sequel. Definately give the first one a rent to see if its your style.
WarioWare: What can I say? Its Warioware on Wii. All of the screwy minigames are back in full force and this is one of the best multiplayer games on the system. If you have four friends that aren't afraid to look silly and have fun, definately rent this and even consider dropping the full 50 bones on the purchase. It doesn't have too much single-player value, so for those of you shopping for it make sure to have some buddies around to make it worthwhile.
SSX Blur: Eh, I don't know. I have heard the game is good and seen videos of really good people on Youtube, but there were really two things that held the game back IMO. First of all it was essentially a remake of previous SSX tracks, but they changed the style. Second--they took out character taunts during matches so the riders have much less personality. Then there is the huge learning curve which I wasn't really interested enough to learn. If you have a lot of time to invest give this one a rent and don't hesistate to denounce me for my less than steller synopsis. I'll definately try this one out when I have a lot more free time, but in the meantime if you are into SSX games you will probably enjoy it--carving using the nunchuk feels silky smooth.
Wii Play: Well, OK, so I actually picked this one up, and just have been too busy to write a review. Basically, the game is worth the 10 bucks it essentially sells for (sells with a 40 dollar remote). If you don't need a remote, don't get the game. If you do, just spend the extra 10 and pick up this small but fun collection of more Wii mingames.
