Well, that's 'your' prefrence. And I won't deny the powerful nostalgia that Nintendo games like Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda have.
However, the important thing here is that thanks to the addition of SNK Playmore's support, the VC service will be more diverse than ever for different kinds of retro games for different kinds of people(especially for a group of people who played games on SNK's Neo-Geo home consoles and arcade cabnets back then in the 90's) in order for them to experience a trip back down memory lane for video game history.
Also, with the additon of the Hori Wii arcade stick:

I'm sure arcade pursuists will be pleased playing this with VC games(especially 2D fighters) for their home arcade experience on Wii. ^_^
There's also an X-Arcade one for the Wii if you go the the X-arcade website.

I really, REALLY hope Nintendo opens its eyes and realizes it either needs to release an external hard drive or let games boot directly from SD cards, because once Neo-Geo games come out anyone who wants them is going to be strained for space since those games are so big.

Not all Neo-Geo games are large. Most or probably half of the Neo-Geo game library are under the 100MB range, or under 50MB:

However, I agree with you about an external HDD for storing bigger VC games(and probably WiiWare games). The Wii does have two USB ports on the back, after all. It's just a question of when Nintendo will either make a USB HD for themselves or partner with another company that makes USB HD's since the possibility is mentinoned a year ago if I recall.

Still...100MB is quite large. The largest n64 games were 64MB.

It seems that the TurboGrafx-CD is now announced for the Japanese virtual console.

Still...100MB is quite large. The largest n64 games were 64MB. Whoa, so that's why they were... NINTENDO 64 GAMES?! I had never seen that coming. Additionally, if NeoGeo games are bigger than games that were released years after, then that must mean it was a system before its time. (Probably explains the huge price and colossal commercial failure.)

Actually, it was the N64 because it was a 64-bit system The early carts ranged from 16MB to 32MB, but games like Resident Evil 2 could only be ported with the largest available cart (64MB).
