I'll tell you what happened. Everytime I put a game in, it would occasionaly say "No Disk" even though there was clearly a game in there. It eventually just gave up and kept doing that no matter what.
Apparently the lens was decalibrated or something, and it needed repairs. I found a GameCube that was cheaper than the cost of repairs , though, so I'm now a proud owner of a platinum GameCube (though I liked black better).
Has this happened to anybody else, or is it just me?

my gamecube had a problem two years ago where about 15 min. into gameplay, a message popped up saying "disk read error" i checked into it, and eventually i had it sent in, which was free because my gamecube was still in its warrenty. so i got it back a week later and i found out it was the disk drive that went bad!!!

I've had my GameCube since launch and it still works perfectly. I guess I'm lucky.

i think i placed my GC in a bad place, on my carpet, where the dust can get inside and settle.

The carpet is the worse place pretty much... because the carpet keeps in warmth, and the GCN gives out heat, which makes the carpet warmer.. and can make the GCN heat up.

ask ruben, or chris, or even evan about my console space, the only place i do have room for one is where my xbox is, or the carpet.

Find a piece of wood or something, then put the GCN on top of it. That way it keeps it off of the carpet directly.

Then ask her:
"Would you rather have a piece of wood to keep it from overheating, which can kill it?"
Or
"Would you rather pay to buy a new GCN, or pay to repair it, which isn't much cheaper than buying a new one, because it decided to overheat, because you were too lazy to help keep it safe?"
That's what I would say.. -_- I've done that kind of stuff to my dad many times.. and he has has finally learned to listen to me more..

umm...actually, she would debate me on who owns and lives in the room. and she will say that finding anouther way of protecting it or getting a new one is on my own expence.
thanks for thinking about it though, i appreciate it!

Yeah.. but still... if you live in the room, and own everything in that room, then she has no right to b|tch about how you go to protect your stuff. I mean.. a piece of wood is no big deal. It might only be a temporary solution.. until you can find another way.. who knows. This reminds me of an argument me and my dad had a few yrs ago. In Wal-Mart. We went there so I can get a brand new TV.. since mine was screwing up. He wanted me to get this "boob-tube" style TV, which didn't have an S-video connection, and of course, wasn't a flat-screen.. well.. I saw one that was a flat-screen, had 2 A/V connection stations, and an S-video connection.. and it was $10 cheaper than the one he was looking at. He got mad because I didn't want the TV he wanted to get me.. but I was saving him money.. and he finally started thinking about it, and got the one I wanted. He still regrets arguing about it.

Mine is near its time. It makes this clicking sound constantly and it has a high chance of freezing when the game is loading, changing screens etc.

My gamecube has only had problems once. I was playing with some friends a couple months ago when I switched games from the LoZ Collectors Edition to Timesplitters 2, and it just gave me the normal boot up screen. When I pressed up on the cube, it said no disk was inserted. I dusted off my GC, waited a couple minutes and tried again. It worked. Haven't had a problem since.
