I just realized that Mario is pretty freaking ugly. He is fat, short, deformed, and has got to be in his 40s. A girl was wearing a shirt today saying "I <3 Mario" This was a pretty pointless thread I guess, and might get me subjected to ridicule, but I have had enough of it in my life, it's not going to change a thing.

Well, Shiggy-san's prime idea for Mario's character was "a man who was not handsome, but had a strong sense of justice." But hey, who doesn't think that bulbous nose is cute?

Well, because he is fat, short and deformed he is Mario. Just try to imagine a sleek, handsome Mario. *shudder*

Just because someone saves you doesn't mean... I think I've gone off topic a weeeeeee bit. Anyways I love Mario as a video game icon that I grew up with and knew. Now just because I'm saying he is ugly, doesn't mean that I don't think he's an awesome character. I'd rather have a manly Mario than a dainty pretty boy Mario *shudders*

Agreed. Leave prettyboy heroing up to the Belmonts and Final Fantasy heroes.

Yeah, when you stop and think about it, Mario's pretty... average. There really isn't anything special about how. Well, expect for the fact that he stomps on turtles, rescues princesses, is a pro at tennis, soccer, baseball, golf, and go-karting, holds millions of parties, and even gets in a fight or two. But besides that, he's just your average plumber.

Wrong. It's a throwback to Alice in Wonderland. She eats this one mushroom and grows into a giant. Then she eats a carrot to shrink right back down. Literature has influenced video games more than drugs ever will.

Well since Alice in Wonderland was read as a commentary if the contemporary drug culture of the 60s, its about the same thing

Well, its kind of hard to say graymatter. Carol certainly took some medications that contained opium and small amounts of cocaine, but they were perfectly legal and socially acceptable at the time. He wasn't a "drug addict" by any means, and probably didnt use them very much for recreational purposes, if it all.

But any drugs can ruin your perception, or at least make you think of different things. Explain the drinsk to make you big and small and the opium smoking caterpillar.

Im not suggesting by any means that there are not drug references in the book, because there clearly are (though the Caterpillar smokes Hookah as I remember, not opium (could be wrong tho)). I am just saying that to say Lewis Caroll thought of Alice in Wonderland on drugs is an overstatement that would be very hard to prove. I think he was a creative writer and a good storyteller, and tho drugs might have given him some of the particular ideas in the story, I think the concept and overall plot were derived from his imagination. People think up craaaazy things without drugs. Just look at Mario.
